Buddham Saranam Gacchami
by Ajahn Achalo
Traditionally people who develop faith in the Teachings taught by, and practices recommended by the historical Buddha, formally go for Refuge. Go for Refuge to the Buddha, as the embodiment of Enlightenment, go for Refuge to the Dhamma, the Truth and teachings espoused and realised by the Buddha, and go for Refuge to the Sangha. Those who have practiced or are practicing correctly, in accordance with the Dhamma. We do this by reciting Buddham Saranam Gacchami, Dhammam Saranam Gacchami, Sangham Saranam Gacchami, x 3.
