"Bodhgaya-Ananda-Cetiya" - Initiated in the year 2017 (2560)
Chedi Development (2017 - 2018)
After teaching for 45 years the Buddha announced to Venerable Ananda that he had 'relinquished the life force' and would soon be entering Mahaparinibbana. Venerable Ananda then asked Lord Buddha what should be done with his remains. Lord Buddha explained the method of cremation and then instructed his loyal attendant with regards to how the remains, which would be relics, should be enshrined in a Cetiya or Chedi, so that people could pay respects.

As it happened many Kingdoms requested a portion of the relics and each then subsequently constructed a suitable monument. Since this time many beautiful Chedis have been constructed in all countries where the Buddha's teachings have thrived. It is widely understood that paying respects, offering flowers, chanting and practicing meditation at such sites, produces particularly helpful merit to support the further development of calm and insight. In the year 2017 we have commenced the construction of what will eventually be an 18 metre tall Chedi at Anandagiri Forest Monastery. We expect the project to take around three more years to be complete.
