Here is a slideshow of Ajahn Achalo’s personal water colour painting hobby. The lotus is a symbol of transcendence in Buddhism, of the purified mind rising above the mud of the defilements. So Ajahn Achalo decided to take water lilies and lotus as his theme. Of this presentation Ajahn Achalo says:

"In this first collection of pictures it can be seen that my skills have begun to develop over the course of an initial 200 hours of practice. I am not claiming any sort of mastery of this medium, but I have enjoyed observing the slow and steady progress. I had no previous painting experience before taking on this new discipline/activity, but have been heartened to witness the ‘truth’ that consistent practice and determination does bring good results. Not everyone will be interested in my new hobby, but I share it for those of you who may be."
