Kathina Ceremony 2021 |
Royal Title Conferment Ceremony
Royal Ceremony
In July of the year 2021, Ajahn Achalo was granted Thai citizenship by the King of Thailand, King Vajiralonkhorn, Rama 10. As well as given the honorary royal title of ‘Tahn Chao Khun Vajiranyanamuni’.
This tradition of royal title’s for renunciant monks may be a little difficult for non-Thai’s to understand or appreciate. But it has been one way that the leaders of Thailand have revered monks who they believe to be well studied and well practiced. Suffice to say that it was an important occasion for the monastery and it’s supporters, with everyone in their finest silks and an avalanche of fresh flowers to mark the occasion of the Privy Counselor and his entourage delivering the ceremonial fan to Anandagiri. Several other senior monks in my lineage have received a similar honour, including Ajahn Achalo’s preceptor, Luang Por Liam, and his teachers, Luang Por Sumedho, Luang Por Pasanno, Luang Por Anan and Luang Por Jayasaro.
Ajahn Achalo is grateful to His Majesty’s gracious gifts and happy to share some pictures of the joyful occasion. As the Kathina ceremony was the day after, some pictures of that ceremony are included as well.
