Questions
Q1 - The precept to refrain from killing seems clear enough. But how do I not kill ants, cockroaches, centipedes, spiders, snakes etc? Since I have broken this precept, what will happen to me?
Q2 - May I know your thoughts regarding Qigong and Reiki healing? Is it wrong for Buddhists to practice these? In terms of tapping into the universal life force energy for self healing oneself and others. |
Q3 - Dear Ajahn, what does 'liberation at sight, sound and taste’ mean?
Q4 - We hear such statements as… ‘Just as the light of a single candle can dispel the darkness of a thousand years, the moment we light a single candle of wisdom, no matter how long or deep our confusion, ignorance is dispelled.’ And the darkness of a thousand eons is dispelled by the light of a single lamp. Likewise, the luminous clarity of mind instantly dispels the negativities and obscurations amassed over eons.’ Does Ajahn have any comments about this?
Q5 - Why is it that thoughts thoughts about my deceased pet rabbit, and about my sister and mother keep coming back to me? My sister passed away 5 years ago, and my rabbit has passed away almost 2 years ago. Yet I still think of them. Is it because their consciousness keep coming back to me? Those thoughts are associated with regrets. So I wonder what happened and what is happening, and also what should I do? Thank you.

Questions
Q1 - Recollection of death makes me feel depressed. I find life is meaningless. How could we do this practice and at the same time be positive with regards to life?
Q2 - Is there a reason why India, where the Buddhist holy sites are located, is so poor and under-developed? It really seems quite ironic that there’s so much suffering at the holiest places on Earth. Can Ajahn please share your thoughts on this? |
Q3 - Dear Ajahn, the path development/attainment is in stages. Can one control or to halt at the once returner stage and make a resolution /aspiration to be born and have the opportunity to meet the next Buddha, and gain liberation then? Thank you.

Questions
Q1: How do you recommend working with sloth and torpor? When the mind calms down there is a kind of fogginess of awareness that is not sleep but no clear mindfulness either. Sometimes during the longer guided meditations, there is a sort of a total blackout that I cannot prevent. The posture is the same, I did not collapse into sleep, but I was not aware of the time running and did not hear the instructions. When coming out, the mind is clear, refreshed but surprised. How to work with this blackout?

Q2: How to work with knee or body pain during meditation? Is there a guided meditation we could use from your recorded collection? Although I am used to sitting with crossed legs for up to 2 hours, lately some knee pain comes up as early as 15 minutes into the second meditation of the day. Is this to be considered a time to work with the pain or simply shift the posture to a more comfortable one and continue in the previous direction? There are no reasons to take this pain as a health warning sign.
Q3: There is this sutta which I don't quite understand, can you enlighten us what did the Buddha meant when he said that even if he had 4 disciples who perfected: mindfulness, retentiveness, memory and lucidity of wisdom respectively, and they were to learn the Four Foundations of Mindfulness, his explanation of the Dhamma would not come to an end, not even 100 years later.
Q4: Noble Eight Fold Path is the path to cease suffering, and the Four Foundations of Mindfulness is the essence of the Noble Eight Fold Path. What if one fails to accomplish the Four Foundations of Mindfulness? Would it mean one is unable to end sufferings?
Q5: Dear Ajahn, Could you please share a personal experience with the Victor's Armour chant? This was my first exposure to it and I'd love to know how people use it. It was inspiring to hear it being chanted. Thank you so much for this morning.
End - Progress of dana hall construction.
