Dear fellow practitioners,
Continuing with our series of studying and considering the Life of The Buddha and his central teachings I am happy to share two more talks which were given whilst on Pilgrimage late last year.
The way that Lord Buddha was able to focus and direct his mind in accordance with his discovery of The Middle Way under the Bodhi Tree on the eve of Enlightenment is truly stunning, wonderful and awe inspiring. The first talk is a summary and commentary about this process and experience.
But the Buddha's unexcelled mastery did not stop with his immaculate Liberation under the tree. Shortly after his Enlightenment he was able to incline practitioners minds to focus in very specific ways conducive to gaining insight, through giving wise teachings… and in not very long there were many hundreds of Arahants whose Liberation was secure just like Lord Buddha's. The second talk covers the teaching of the Fire Sermon, where 1000 former 'matted hair ascetics' all attained Liberation through listening to the profound teaching. After this the Buddha wandered in stages towards Rajgir where King Bimbisara and many Brahmin leaders in the Kindgdom also became established in the first stage of Enlightenment. What a golden age of Enlightenment it must have been! Bringing to mind such occasions can be very good for our faith and understanding.
I sincerely hope that something in these talks is useful.
